
Our Brief
The strategic driver for this digital transformation was two-fold:
- Consolidation across Kingsbarns' diverse range of brands & products through an enhanced and expandable UX
- Increased visibility across the offering - positioning Kingsbarns as a market-leading drinks destination
Through this revised site, we also had to combine engaging brand storytelling with slick, mobile-friendly shopping and distillery tour bookings for a global customer base.
Shopify Plus was quickly identified as the platform of choice given its powerful scalability, exceptional customer experiences, enterprise-grade features & lightning-fast checkout.

Solution
We began with an in-depth Brand Discovery to understand each brand and their global audiences—consumers, distributors, and trade partners. These insights informed a user-centric navigation structure to drive engagement and conversions.
Each brand received a dedicated space on the new site, with distinct theming and upsell features such as exclusive cocktails and tours. The structure and domain strategy were optimised for SEO, preserving existing search authority and targeting key keywords.
Feature-rich Shopify modules were used to tell each brand’s story, leveraging high-quality photography and video. A “Founders’ Lounge” fostered loyalty through exclusive content and pricing.

Shopify Plus streamlined operations to enhance customer lifetime value through accounts, repeat purchases, remarketing, and personalised experiences. Cross-site tagging improved navigation, including journal content for cocktails, tasting notes, and distillery news.
International sales and localisation were built into the Shopify Plus setup. A key opportunity was identified in US visitors travelling to Scotland for whisky and golf. A dedicated US site was launched with its own distribution strategy, positioning Kingsbarns as a must-visit distillery near St Andrews’ iconic courses.
Shopify Plus now powers the client’s international ecommerce strategy, providing a single source of truth with real-time alignment across online and offline channels, supported by integrated POS.
